“You are the light of the world. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven,” Matthew 5:14,16

These verses resonate with senior Catherine Buckley, who co-hosts “Lovely Light Podcast” with Annabel Kaye. The girls discovered this Bible verse together on a Confirmation retreat, and it prompted the name of their podcast.

The two wanted to start a podcast to empower girls to dive deep into their faith.

“I feel like a lot of the podcasts are all made by older ladies, like there’s not a lot of podcasts by teenagers,” Buckley said. “So I feel like having teenagers talk to teenagers is better, maybe they’d be more receptive.”

So far, they have one season consisting of 30 five-minute episodes. They were recently featured in The Florida Times-Union.

“We both went to Holy Family, and we were in the same class in Pre-K,” Buckley said. “So we’ve been best friends ever since.”

Kaye’s dad has a podcast on Spotify, so the girls are able to use his equipment. He assists them in the recording process and uploading the podcast online. The two also have a pre-recording process they do before each episode.

“We come together on the weekends, and pick Bible verses that just stuck out to us,” Buckley said. “We would discuss beforehand how [the verses] were speaking to us in our lives.”

The girls take notes from there, and those start each episode.

“Sometimes, we would talk about the notes, and the Holy Spirit was just talking through us,” Buckley said.

In episode 6, “Armor of God,” the two talk about how the Holy Spirit helps us to use the Word of God to be a shield and sword against evil.

“The faith is a shield, and we hold it against the evil things,” Buckley said in episode 6. “There will be temptations in school to gossip, but ultimately to use that shield against the harmful things at school will be so helpful.”

Buckley says she wants to be an example for girls, letting them know they should not be scared or nervous to start a connection with God.

“I want teenage girls to see others living out their faith and think, ‘I can do it too,’” Buckley said.

Buckley says the pair plan to record a second season in hopes to release it before Easter.
