Competing for the Crown

Auditions for the Miss Bishop Kenny Pageant were held on Wed. Jan. 29. Around 8-12 people typically audition to be the next Ms. BK, and this year 11 auditioned for the opportunity to compete for the title.

“Around Christmas time, I sent out a Google Form to the junior class cohort,” pageant director and former Miss BK Grace Isaac said. “It asked them questions about their talent, the dates they are available to practice and sponsorship money. ”

Isaac is in charge of the pageant, and she judged the auditions alongside teachers Heather Mark, Malisa Pellicer, Nicole Hurtt and Katelyn Brite. They judged the competitors for talent and skill level, stage presence and confidence, creativity and originality.

Once the contestant has auditioned, the judge will go over what they did well, and what they need to improve on to perform to the best of their ability.

“Some former contestants will emcee and talk about the contestants when they are introduced on stage,” Isaac said.

Emcees will talk about what the contestant does in school and what they plan to do after high school.

“This year, I’m choreographing the dance completely from scratch and selecting the costumes as well,” reigning Miss BK Sheridan Delegal said.

Delegal says she takes great pride in her accomplishment. After winning the Miss BK title, she went on to compete for Miss Senior High, which is a competition between the schools in Jacksonville.

“The preparation we put in for Miss BK, especially with the guidance of Ms. Isaac, gave me the confidence and foundation I needed to proudly represent BK on a bigger stage and ultimately earn the title of Miss Senior High,” Delegal said.

The help and support Delegal received is what she wants to give to the contestants this year to give them the best chance at winning and she wants to pass on the success she had to the next winner of this year’s pageant.
