From May 4 to May 15, students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses take exams. Morning exams start at 8, and afternoon exams begin at noon.
Scores range on a scale with 1 being the lowest grade and 5 being the highest grade. The minimum score to pass the AP exam is 3.
Many things can cause stress like school, relationships and exams. Particularly, AP exams can make students uneasy, and during exam season, students tend to be even more stressed than normal.
Stress can impact how some students perform, and if it does, it affects how one might score on their AP exam.
“I feel fine for everything except AP Chem, which l’m a bit [stressed for],” junior Milan Mora said.
Although he doesn’t claim to be feeling nervous for these exams, he has advice for the people who may be.
“Just keep in mind that it’s just an exam and that [it may determine what schools you get into for college, but afterwards, it won’t] impact anyone’s future,” Mora said.
Sophomore Brooklyn Denmark also has stressed over AP exams, but over time, her opinion has changed.
“I was really stressed for AP World,” Denmark said. “We just took the mock exam last weekend and now I’m [gaining confidence]. Now I’m not as stressed, but like, that was really making me stressed out.”
She says she understands that everyone is in this experience together, and that she thinks this idea has helped her feel more calm.
It is important to manage one’s stress levels and find ways that work to help alleviate stress.
According to cdc.gov, some of these things you can do are meditate, sleep the regular eight hours, exercise regularly, practice breathing exercises and even doing something simple like taking breaks throughout the day.
Find ways to cope if you are experiencing stress with these exams, because your mental health is more important than an exam.
