Bishop Kenny’s mission is dedicated to personal improvement, challenging students and spiritual growth and enrichment.
Student Government President senior Jacob Valenzuela does his best to embody all this and more.
Valenzuela has been Student Council President for three years, and is now serving as Student Government (SGA) President. As president, he represents the entire student body— helping plan events and advocating for students’ needs.
Student Government and Student Council help with “matters of policy, school spirit and community service,” according to bishopkenny.org. Both organizations help with events such as the Homecoming dance, the Miss BK pageant and pep rallies.
In addition to Student Government, he is a co-founder of the Model UN group, captain of Brain Brawl, an active member of Society of St. Vincent de Paul service organization and an active member of Theatre Club at BK.
Jacob Valenzuela is an active member in his community, and has taken 13 AP classes and the only Dual Enrollment class offered at Bishop Kenny.
“The reason why I take [these classes] is mainly the challenge offered in all of them,” Valenzuela said. “Specific AP courses help you get ahead faster.”
Valenzuela’s favorite class is AP Physics C: Mechanics. This class is very challenging, he says, and he enjoys its demanding structure.
“It’s the hardest class I can take, point blank period, because of the way that the course is taught; you figure it out for yourself,” Valenzuela said. “It offers a way of expressing your creativity in a way to find the correct answer.”
After graduation, Valenzuela hopes to attend the University of Florida and earn a degree in Political Science. With this degree, he plans to attend law school and become a corporate lawyer.
Valenzuela hopes to leave a lasting impact not only at Bishop Kenny, but in his community as a whole.
“I hope in my life to help people to make their own contribution, to give others the power, and a position to be able to do that,” Valenzuela said. “[To] leave behind more of a sense of community here.”
Jacob is passionate about his future goals and believes that everyone should play a role in society.
“We are all people of the future,” Valenzuela said. “We should all contribute.”
