Both Bishop Kenny High School’s girls and boys swim teams placed first at the All Catholic Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Senior Carter Wright was one of the leading seniors of the boys’ swim team. During the meet, Wright placed first in two events, including the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.
After winning in 2023 and placing second last year, Wright says the team was motivated to go for this year’s win. With practice and training, the team was splashed with success as they won first place for both the girls and boys swim teams.
“They announced us over the microphone, and we got our plaque and took pictures,” Wright said. “And Coach Valley jumped in the pool, which is pretty cool.”
He further mentioned how proud he is of how much the team has grown in both number and skill.
“This year, we have a pretty big team with incoming freshmen,” Wright said. “So I think it’ll be exciting to see what they have to offer.”
As it is Wright’s senior year at Kenny, he says he strives to lead his team to meet their goals and cheer on his teammates to more wins.
“I think that’s a really fun thing that our swimming team has,” Wright said. “We cheer!”
As the season continues, the team prepares for its district championship on Thursday, Oct. 23.
