Following the loss to the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs on Jan. 11, the Jacksonville Jaguars wave goodbye to the original Everbank Stadium—the team’s home since the inaugural season in 1995.
After 31 seasons, the stadium will undergo major renovations. Enhancements include a protective canopy over seating areas, wider concourses, new seating types and scenic lookout decks.
This project is referred to as “Stadium of the Future,” and construction is projected to be completed in 2028.
Protective Canopy
This new shade will offer wind and shade protection for the stadium. It will also reduce heat retention by 70 percent, according to jaguars.com, offering a cool atmosphere which is beneficial during severe heat advisories.
Wider Concourses
In this renovation, the concourses will be widened to create four times the amount of walking space, according to jaguars.com.
New Seating Types
Though limited information has been released about these new seating options, it was revealed that there will be 7,000 additional seats added to the stadium. Currently, there are 63,000 seats in the stadium, but the renovation will increase the amount to 70,000. This includes seating choices from “field to sky,” according to jaguars.com.
Scenic Lookout Decks
These decks will create the opportunity to look out onto the Jacksonville skyline and view the St. John’s River.
Everbank is known for its unique amenities, such as the pools with a view of the field, which opened in 2014. While commonly mistaken to be removed in the renovation, the pools are here to stay.
These new renovations will not only be beneficial for the Jaguars, but will help the stadium be better prepared to host events such as the Florida-Georgia football game, the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl and concerts.
This time of construction impacts the Bishop Kenny student body because historically, the Crusaders host the annual Prom in the Gallagher Club section.
“I’m sad that Prom was moved out of the stadium because my older sister got to have hers there, but not me,” junior Jack Mosqueda said. His sister, Daniella Mosqueda, graduated in the class of 2025, and was able to attend her junior prom at Everbank.
Due to these renovations, events cannot be held at Everbank and therefore must be relocated elsewhere.
Minor construction began in February 2025. Currently, the heavier construction plans are set to begin in February 2026, and the team will continue to play at home when possible in the 2026 season with reduced seating.
However, the location for the Jaguars’ 2027 season has yet to be determined.
“Fans will have the ability to see progress when attending games during these NFL seasons,” according to jaguars.com.

Sounds like the new stadium will be worth it in the long run! If Jacksonville wants to run with the big guys, we have to invest now.
