Walt Disney World in Orlando reports unusually small crowds
The Happiest Ghost Town on Earth

It’s no question that Walt Disney World can get extremely busy.

Especially as someone who grew up right next to the theme park, I’ve had my fair share of the park being packed with crowds.

Located in Orlando, nicknamed the “Theme Park Capital of the World,” Disney brings lots of tourism to the state of Florida.

Despite this, park crowds have reportedly been at an all time low, to the point that guests describe it to be like a “ghost town.”

So why is it exactly that “the Happiest Place on Earth” has suddenly become an abandoned ghost town?

One reason could be Disney’s high prices that can total up to be an expensive trip, especially for large families.

According to disneyworld.disney.go.com, one-day park tickets alone can start at $119, but can cost as much as $179.

This doesn’t even cover food costs, which according to pixievacations.com, guests “should expect to spend between $50 and $60 per day.” As for hotel stays, the value tier of hotels starts at $149/night. Additional ticket add-ons, such as the Lightning Lane and Park Hopper, can also add to the cost of a trip to Disney.

Another reason for the decline of guests at Disney World could be due to the fact that it’s not the only contender for the best theme park anymore.

The opening of Epic Universe may have brought more crowds to Universal Parks rather than Disney.

With eye-catching lands, such as the highly anticipated Nintendo World, along with a smaller maximum daily capacity, Epic Universe can be a more appealing option for a day at the parks.

As for the other theme parks, Sea World for instance offers much cheaper ticket prices, ranging from between $65 and $146, depending on if they are offering a flash sale.

While Universal Studios may be in a similar range for ticket prices as Disney, hotel prices are significantly cheaper.

According to universalorlando.com, the cheapest hotel room from the value tier of Universal hotels costs $88, which is much cheaper when compared to Disney World.

With such low crowds currently, it’s not a bad idea to take advantage and book a trip to Disney this fall. You might even get the chance to ride the Tron Lightcycle Power Run.
