By taking different paths in life, teachers’ perspectives are shaped and influence how they approach the classroom and the field.
William Healy has had quite a journey before landing at Kenny as a new teacher this year.
Although born in Jacksonville, he was exposed to new cultures in Ireland, and lived in different states like Texas.
“Soon after high school, I joined the Air Force,” Healy said. “It was something that helped me when I was directionless.”
After working in the restaurant business for a while, he decided to pursue higher education. Healy graduated from University of North Florida with bachelor’s degrees in English and History, and later earned his masters degree in History in 2009.
He then moved to North Carolina, where he taught computer science and engineering at Cardinal Gibbons High School, developing multiple programs for the school before he left.
At Kenny, he teaches English 3, English 3 Honors, and AP Language and Composition. Additionally, he is a defensive line coach for the JV football team.
“I think football is an outstanding way to help young men learn discipline,” Healy said. “[They] learn how to set goals, learn how to compete, and learn how to respect each other.”
